Make a visible difference on the trail

TORC is growing from a largely volunteer-run trail program into a professionally supported regional program. This hands-on role is for someone comfortable with hand and power tools, willing to work safely with compact equipment, and equally comfortable leading a safety briefing or walking a project with a land manager. Your work will help create more durable multi-use trails across the Greater Triangle as we expand.

• Position: Full-time, year-round
• Base pay: $60,000–$85,000 annually, based on experience
• Location: Greater Triangle area, North Carolina, with field work at trail sites across the local region
• Work setting: Typically 50–60% field-based, with remote administrative work
• Travel and schedule: Regular regional travel is essential; some weekend work and occasional overnight travel may be required

What you’ll do

• Assess trail conditions and lead approved construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance.
• Turn partner goals into practical plans, schedules, and budgets, and coordinate contractors.
• Train and coach volunteer trail leaders and lead safe, productive workdays.
• Work directly with land managers to plan projects and address trail needs.

What you’ll bring

Hands-on natural-surface trail skills, experience leading crews or volunteers, and clear communication with partners. TORC seeks four or more years of progressively responsible experience in trail work, parks or natural-resource field operations, or closely related construction work.
