The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking to fill an opening for Regional Wildlife Biologist – Landowner Sportsmen Coordinator located at our Salmon Regional office in Salmon.

General Information:
- Regional Wildlife Biologists may be required to ride in fixed-wing and rotary wing aircraft. These positions involve walking and backpacking for several hours, operating trail bikes, and riding horses in rugged terrain; handling unsedated wild animals; working in extreme weather conditions; and lifting and carrying up to 65 pounds with or without accommodation.
Primary Responsibilities:
As a regional wildlife biologist for the Salmon Region, you will be part of a dedicated wildlife team charged with implementation of regional and statewide management priorities for a variety of wildlife species and their habitats. The Salmon Region works under a district model and the positions primary responsibility will be the implementation of all wildlife management priorities within a defined geographic district. In addition, this position will serve as the regional lead for the Landowner Sportsmen Coordinator program. They are expected to be the regional expert in the program and the point of contact for all statewide program communication.
- Respond to complaints and develop partnerships with farmers and ranchers experiencing wildlife depredations and provide solutions to minimize losses; design and implement data collection programs to estimate yield losses.
- Administer a private lands access program for hunters and fishermen and Landowner Appreciation Program.
- Supervise and train employees in depredation management and collection of data on wildlife use and crop damage.
- Design and implement wildlife population and habitat surveys to inform hunting and trapping seasons and technical service requests.
- Monitor wildlife movements and activities.
- Analyze wildlife population and habitat data and write reports.
- Communicate data on wildlife populations and habitats to both internal and external partners and organizations for technical service requests, hunting and harvest management, and for educational outreach.

General Responsibilities:
- Work with regional staff to implement big game, upland game, waterfowl, furbearer, nongame, and habitat management programs.
- Review environmental assessment reports and impact statements affecting area wildlife populations and habitats.
- Participate in conducting public meetings and hearings on wildlife regulations.
- Design and implement wildlife population and habitat data collection programs.
- Conduct public outreach activities.
- Work with others to implement priority strategies and actions identified in Idaho's State Wildlife Action Plan.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding nuisance, injured, and sick wildlife. This may include activities such as relocations or humane euthanasia.
Minimum Qualifications:

- Incumbents must be willing to participate in and to instruct hunting activities.
- Some knowledge of forest management, range management, or agricultural wildlife habitat. (Typically gained by at least six months of professional field work experience in wildlife management OR successful completion of at least two college-level courses in range or forest ecosystems/management of agricultural wildlife habitats from an accredited college or university.)
- Experience developing, evaluating, or implementing management plans or development plans, hunting regulations or species management plans. (Typically gained by experience evaluating, implementing, or developing management plans or projects for wildlife populations and/or habitats (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act documents, habitat development plans, hunting seasons and regulations, or wildlife species management plans. Experience as a team member in this area is acceptable.)
- Good knowledge of the ecology, habitat requirements, taxonomy, and population dynamics of wildlife. (Typically gained by at least six years of professional field work experience in wildlife management OR successful completion of upper-division college coursework leading to a bachelor's degree in wildlife management or a closely related field that includes courses in zoology, wildlife management techniques, wildlife habitat relationships, population dynamics, and wildlife behavior from an accredited college or university, plus at least two years of professional field work in wildlife management.)
- Experience conducting wildlife field research to include the design, collection, and analysis of wildlife data, writing a report of findings, and giving oral presentations of project results. (Typically gained by work experience designing, gathering, and analyzing wildlife data where the experience is limited to only one species or habitat.)
Minimum Qualification Specialty Area:
