Regulatory Biologist (Environmental)

VESTRA Resources Inc. is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to join our environmental services team. We are looking for a well-organized, fast-paced, problem solver. This is a temporary (seasonal), hourly position, up to six (6) months. There is potential for this position to become a regular position depending on continuous workload. This position may require occasional overtime and weekend hours. This is not a remote position; this position will report to our office location in Redding, CA with travel required for field assignments.

Primary duties include planning and implementation of biological field work in support of projects, conducting biological habitat evaluations, surveys and studies for special-status plans and/or animals, soil sampling, preparation of environmental regulatory compliance documents and technical reports, and construction monitoring.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. with a major in Biology, Wildlife, Botany, Fisheries or related discipline.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years' experience in related field. Past experience should include biological field data collection, reporting, and statistical technique, use of identification keys, orienteering with topographic maps and aerial photos, ability to locate positions and plot locations in difficult steep terrain, familiarity with global positioning systems (GPS) electronic data recorders, iPad, or similar, basic use of ArcGIS, and reporting.
  • An understanding of permitting and project processes is required. Knowledge of Federal and State of California laws and regulations (CWA, NEPA, CEQA, ESA, and CESA) is preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills, ability to interact with clients, and good people skills.
  • Ability to work in a group as well as independently.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging work environment; excellent at problem solving, and ability to think outside of the box.
  • Must be physically and mentally capable of working in a wide range of physical and environmental conditions (off trail rugged hiking, camping, remote locations). This position may include individual/solo field assignments, and there will be potential for overnights in remote locations.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays, for work that is generally 3+ hours away from main office. Hotel accomodations, meals and incidentals will be covered when traveling.
  • Ability to lift and move approximately 50 lbs., work in the field, operate a 4x4 truck and ATV, and operate and calibrate field measurement equipment.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States without sponsorship. VESTRA will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

The pre-employment physical examination is designed solely to determine the applicant's physical ability to perform the duties of the position being offered to them. The pre-employment physical must be completed, and a passing result received by the Company prior to beginning work. Refusal to submit to a pre-employment physical will result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
