Salary Details Resource Specialist: $2,780.80 to $3,197.92/bi-weekly. Senior Resource Specialist: $3,060.00 to $3,519.00/bi-weekly

Responsible for open space management, recreation planning, and public outreach. Monitors and inventories trails, recreational facilities, and public uses; and collaborates with agency and non-profit partners to preserve and enhance County Open Space and Trails assets. Identifies and implements activities associated with the natural resource protection and outdoor recreation management of Summit County properties and trails. Assists with grant writing and administration to fund open space projects, review of land use and trail proposals, GIS mapping, procuring and managing independent contractor agreements, and working to advance County Open Space’s conservation and recreational goals. Completes other land management, natural resource, and recreation planning projects, and addresses complex project management issues as assigned and depending on the candidate’s skills. This position entails approximately 85% office and 15% field work.

The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, be an efficient problem solver and self-starter, and have the ability to work effectively and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with diverse individuals and agencies. Experience in project management, recreation planning, capacity management, natural surface and paved trail planning and construction, conservation, successful grant writing, and GIS/GPS skills are strongly preferred. Familiarity with local trails and open space and an understanding of local government processes is a plus.

The applicant will be selected for either the Resource Specialist or Senior Resource Specialist position based on their experience and qualifications. The specific position will be discussed and determined during the interview and hiring phase. Resource Specialist: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in natural resource management, environmental planning, outdoor recreation, tourism, or similar field; and applicable work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties. Senior Resource Specialist: Master’s Degree in natural resource management, environmental planning, outdoor recreation, tourism, or similar field, and at least three years of professional-level experience working in recreation planning, land management, or land conservation. Comprehensive knowledge of Open Space and Trails program functions, property and trail assets, management plans and concerns, and experience leading local government processes.
