Salary $35,556 - $40,000 per year

Perform regular duties associated with forestry, ecology, and recreation management, including prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, invasive species treatment, biological surveys, and trail and interpretive site maintenance.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Prepare prescribed fire lines and assist with prescribed fires.
  • Assist with invasive species control and compliance.
  • Perform timber stand improvement and cedar clearing.
  • Ensure debris removal and cleanliness in recreation and interpretive areas.
  • Assist with maintenance and establishment of trails.
  • Conduct maintenance on assigned work areas.
  • Manage general supply inventory and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Handle administrative duties, such as activity reporting and invoice processing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license.
  • Ability to safely operate 4x4 trucks with and without trailers, UTVs, chainsaws, pumps, hand tools, and other equipment used for land management.
  • Ability to identify plants, wildlife, and wildlife habitats; ability to identify patterns, unusual species, and unique sites; or demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn basic first aid and CPR with an interest in completing Wilderness First Responder training.
  • Ability to pass a work capacity test for wildland firefighters (aka Pack Test).
  • Ability to qualify as a National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2), including Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service (L-180), Firefighting Training (S-130), and Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190).
  • Ability to complete the NWCG S-212 Wildland Fire Chain Saws course.
  • Use office equipment, such as computers, calculators, cameras, scanners, and printers.

Work Environment:

  • Routinely work in outdoor weather conditions, including excessive heat, cold or rain.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises, which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities:

  • Move around the grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Operate a computer and other office productivity equipment.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Maintain clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, 20 feet or more, and three-dimensional vision.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain and hike for an extended length of time.
  • Maintain concentrated attention at all times.
  • Ensure regular attendance as a necessary and essential function.

  • Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for L-A-D business, as needed.
