Assists with Natural Resources grounds keeping and Trails maintenance as required with a focus on equipment operation. The Resources Technician will assist Trails Technician and Grounds Maintenance as necessary. 


  • Performs landscape and other maintenance duties (i.e. mowing, limbing, trimming, de-berming, weeding, pruning and weed control) 
  • Applies chemical herbicides as required
  • Assists in clearing and constructing new trails and reroutes of existing trails
  • Assists in the construction of trail structures such as bridges, staircases, fences, retaining walls and boardwalks
  • Participates in volunteer trail days; recommends work agendas and assignments for volunteers. Ensures needed tools and supplies are available and ensures PPE protocol is followed
  • Reviews safety procedures before beginning each job with known hazards; follows safety rules/procedures while completing work; avoids known hazards; wears PPE (personal protective equipment) as needed   
  • Inspects equipment for routine maintenance to assure efficiency and safety
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment (i.e. mower, weed-eater, pressure washer, chainsaw, pruning equipment, excavator, skid steer, backhoe, loaders, trenchers, ladder and various hand tools)
  • Assists facility maintenance techs as needed 
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Understands and applies land and trail management concepts as well as pest control practices
  • Skilled in operating heavy equipment

  • High School diploma, GED with knowledge of sustainable trail building, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding and general maintenance or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities 
  • Experience and ability to perform rigorous physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather
  • Experience with operating heavy equipment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

 No supervisory responsibilities  


Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold and seasonal high temperatures for prolonged periods. Exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, vibration. The noise level in the work environment is often loud. Regularly walks; uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls; and talks and hears. Occasionally stands and sits. Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves more than 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to operate a mountain or road bike at intermediate levels in advanced riding terrain in a variety of riding conditions. High-level physical job.  

May work with potentially hazardous chemicals that could include, but are not limited to, fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. 


First aid kit, sturdy work gloves, and sturdy leather work boots. Use of any gasoline-operated power tool/equipment will also require the proper use of eye protection and hearing protection. Additionally, in the case of chainsaw operation, a hard hat and saw chaps are also required for the faller (boots, gloves, hardhat, eye protection, and hearing protection required as needed).
