WRA Landscape Restoration specializes in ecological restoration and wildland vegetation management solutions throughout California’s unique array of ecological communities. Our Landscape Restoration team is based out of the North Bay and provides natural resource-based services throughout the entire San Francisco Bay Area. 

We are seeking a Restoration Technician to join our hardworking and joyful team in fulfilling the initiatives of our Restoration Program which are centered around the restoration, stewardship, and enhancement of natural landscapes and habitats. This opportunity is a field based position, performing ecological restoration services including native plant out-planting, site maintenance and irrigation, invasive plant mapping and control, stream bank stabilization, erosion control, and fire fuel management.  Additional activities may include data collection for reports and field research, documenting and mapping distributions of native resources and invasive populations for project sites, occasional tool and vehicle maintenance, and strategically implementing ecologically driven approaches to achieve optimal success on our project sites.

This is a physically demanding year-round role. Candidates must be willing to work outdoors in wild and rough terrain through extreme weather conditions. Steep slopes and poison oak are common on most job sites. 

Compensation: $20-25 per hour depending on experience.

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Performing various aspects of habitat restoration including; vegetation management, habitat restoration, native plant installation, irrigation design and installation, and project site maintenance. 
  • Conducting ecological fuel breaks in wildland and urban interface locations
  • Mapping invasive species population distribution and conducting control efforts Performing streambank stabilization and bioengineered erosion control installations
  • Performing trail installations and maintenance
  • Tracking and documenting work through photo point monitoring and reporting
  • Designing and conducting research to provide meaningful information to the field of restoration
  • Attending program and staff meetings, and periodic check-ins with Project and Program Managers
  • Occasionally working on the weekends
  • Being available for occasional overnight stays with advanced notice

Essential Qualifications include:

  • A high school diploma, GED, or 1-3 years of field experience
  • Experience in ecological restoration, fuel reduction, and invasive species control
  • An interest and curiosity in developing expertise with flora and fauna of the San Francisco Bay Area 

Additional beneficial skills and qualifications include:

  • Experience using and maintaining mechanical equipment (i.e. chainsaws, brush cutter, power hedge trimmer, and auger drills)
  • Experience using and maintaining hand tools (i.e. Pulaski, McLeod, hand pick, and other necessary equipment) 
  • Experience in ecological restoration, fuel reduction, and invasive species control is preferred
  • Chainsaw safety certificate or the willingness to obtain one after 90 days
  • Wildland Firefighter Type II-I
  • GPS/GIS mapping
  • QAL or QAC Certification
  • Irrigation Technician Certification
  • Experience towing trailers 
  • First Aid or Wilderness First Aid Training
  • Bilingual or Spanish speaking

  • A commitment to safety practices and adherence to safety policies and direction from a supervisor

Daily Physical Requirements:

  • High level of stamina and physical fitness
  • Able to navigate steep slopes on foot, often while carrying loads
  • Must safely lift and transport heavy loads of 45 - 50 lbs. for an extended period and occasionally 100 lbs
  • Able to bend frequently or work on knees for an extended period
  • Able to reliably commute to WRA LR’s San Rafael offices
  • Able to travel for work and work away from home for extended periods
  • Tolerance to poison oak, pollens, thorny brush, insects, and inclement weather
