Sea Turtle Volunteer Coordinator in Nicaragua - Nov26-Jan27

MEMANTA is looking for a coordinator to lead a team of 5-7 interns/volunteers, during the months of November, December and January. (has to arrive in the last week of October)

Duties:

  • Lead nightly patrols (3-4h) to find nests or buy nests from poachers
  • Lead afternoon hatchery work (2h) or alternative activities like beach clean-ups, gardening…
  • Help with community involvement and kids activities
  • Make sure the hatchery is properly monitored and all are doing their assigned tasks
  • Make sure the nest data is properly gathered and well-managed
  • Make sure the interns are happy
  • Help with training new interns
  • Do fun stuff with the group according to the activity schedule
  • Report to the project manager and assist with anything that might come up

Requirements:

  • Conversational Spanish & English
  • Prior working experience at a sea turtle hatchery
  • Adventurous, energetic, open-minded, resilient

We give preference to candidates who have experience working with Olive Ridleys in Central America. Note that we work closely with community members and poachers, so a certain cultural understanding is beneficial. The nesting season will be coming to an end in December, and the focus shifts to hatchling releases and general conservation work.
