Summary
Ranch Advisory’s team works to enhance the long-term ecological performance of rangelands so that sustainable revenue streams may be derived from them over time. Ecological data, collected through rangeland health and habitat monitoring, underpins our work, and informs the management strategies we develop in collaboration with our clients. We are looking to fill seasonal, contract Field Technician positions during the summer 2026 field season. These individuals will be responsible for helping collect rangeland health and habitat data in various states across the west, ranging from South Dakota and Nebraska to Montana and New Mexico.

Responsibilities & Scope
Core Responsibilities

  • Support Project Implementation – assist with logistics and planning associated with rangeland health monitoring projects.
  • Collect Rangeland Health Data – collect rangeland health monitoring data following standard protocols. Requires long days, work in variable weather conditions, in remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and may be physically demanding. 
  • Represent Ranch Advisory through professional conduct when interacting with clients and partners.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • Exposure to/familiarity with grassland plants within at least one of the following regions: Montana/Wyoming; South Dakota/Nebraska; Colorado/New Mexico; Oregon/Nevada.
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to focus
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and willingness to apply oneself to learning on the job
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Stamina for long hours outside during the summer
  • Willingness to travel during the summer and work through weekends at times
  • Positive attitude and someone who enjoys working with a team

Desired Qualifications

  • Exposure or experience with standard rangeland health monitoring methods such as line-point intercept, belt transects, and line intercepts.
  • Familiarity with ranching systems
  • Ability to adapt to the unexpected.

Compensation:

  • Compensation: $18-$22/hr. Competitive & commensurate w/experience
  • Project related expenses such as travel, lodging and food covered.
  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid training & certification covered by Ranch Advisory
