Position Overview
We are hiring Seasonal Ecological Restoration Technicians to perform hands-on, physically demanding outdoor work restoring native landscapes. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hard physical labor, working outdoors, and gaining practical experience in ecological restoration.
High-performing seasonal employees may be considered for full-time, year-round employment.
Realistic Job Preview
This role involves physical labor for most of the day. You will lift and carry heavy materials, use hand tools, work on uneven terrain, and perform repetitive tasks outdoors in all weather conditions. Some days are long, dirty, and physically exhausting. If you enjoy physical challenge, teamwork, and visible results, this job can be highly rewarding. If you prefer indoor, light-duty, or predictable work, this position may not be a good fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify native and invasive plant species
- Hand-pull weeds and apply herbicides
- Install native plants, seed, and erosion control materials
- Mow, cut, and remove invasive vegetation
- Clear brush and haul heavy materials

Required Qualifications

Certification Requirement
- Illinois Pesticide Operator License (obtained within 30 days; training provided)
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Lift up to 50 lbs frequently
- Lift up to 20 lbs continuously
- Perform repetitive bending, kneeling, standing, and walking for extended periods
Preferred Experience
- Prior landscaping, restoration, or outdoor labor experience
- Familiarity with native plants or invasive species
- Degree or coursework in ecology or environmental science
- Reliable transportation
