Seasonal Ecology Intern
Martha's Vineyard Land Bank Commission

The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission is seeking three ecology interns for the 2026 summer season from May-October ($19/hr, 40-hour week). Start and end dates are flexible. The position supports the Land Bank’s ecologist and livestock manager with ecological surveys and the restoration grazing program on over 4000 acres of conservation land owned by the Land Bank.
Responsibilities:
• Survey lepidoptera, bats, amphibians, and breeding birds
• Inventory vegetation in grasslands, shrublands, and woodlands
• Monitor and remove invasive plants
• Collect GPS data using FieldMaps and hand-held devices and perform GIS mapping using ArcPro
• Conduct wetland delineation
• Assist with electric fencing set-up and general livestock maintenance
• Collect water quality data
Requirements:
• General knowledge and interest in wildlife and plants and a strong foundation in basic field skills
• Prior coursework or equivalent field experience in identifying birds by sight and sound and using a dichotomous key to identify plants
• Basic knowledge of ArcPro, Excel and Rstudio is desirable, but not required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable around livestock
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and your own vehicle
• Flexibility and willingness to work weekends and holidays
Housing and compensation:
• $19/hr, 40 hours per week
• Seasonal shared housing is available in exchange for an additional 4 hours of work per week. If you require housing, please make note of it in your application.
