Seasonal Landscape Technician

Part-time, hourly position at $15/hour – through October 30th, 2026.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Seasonal Landscape Technician works with property owners in the Elizabeth River watershed to implement river friendly practices. These practices include living shorelines, oyster reefs, rain gardens, and more.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assisting the restoration team with our River Star Homes Program. Helping to implement on-the-ground improvements to help homeowners reduce their environmental impact on the Elizabeth River.
- Working with other ERP team members and volunteers to install sand and wetland grasses to create living shorelines, build oyster reefs, and construct rain gardens.
- Assisting to maintain a safe work environment for all staff and volunteers. Educating the public on the efforts of the River Star Homes program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Restoration – Basic knowledge of and interest in environmental stewardship practices and restoration.
- Landscaping – Knowledge of using basic landscaping practices and tools such as shoveling and wheelbarrowing.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Customer Service – Interacting with the public and River Star Homes program participants with enthusiasm and in a polite manner.
- Interpersonal Relationships – Sharing knowledge with supervisors and staff for mutual and departmental benefit. Handling conflicts and disagreements in a positive manner. Establishing effective working relationships among team members.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
- Communication – Presenting ideas and information effectively in oral and/or written communication. Interacting easily with homeowners, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Coordination of Work – Managing own time well and considering the time of others, such as supervisors and coworkers. Completing tasks with attention to detail and efficiency.
- Self-regulation – Recognizing personal, physical limits and needs to prevent over-exertion and exhaustion to maintain a safe work environment in the heat, cold, and wet conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in customer service, experience performing tasks in accordance with safety standards and rules, experience working outdoors or in physically demanding roles.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift 35 pounds over head
- Ability to stand and work for extended periods
- Ability to work in and around water
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.
- Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES
Essential functions of this position are regularly performed with exposure to outdoor elements, consisting of sometimes inclement weather including heat, cold, and wet conditions.
