A Seasonal Research Assistant position is available with the CAES Office of Aquatic Invasive Species (OAIS). This position will focus on documenting aquatic vegetation in Connecticut waterbodies. The successful candidate will assist the principal investigator in performing aquatic plant surveys by boat and by drone.  Candidates must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful. Must be comfortable working full days in the laboratory or in the field. Job duties will include aquatic plant identification in the field and in the lab, herbarium mounting, web mapping and webpage editing, driving to and from field sites trailering a boat, greenhouse management, and interacting with the public at outreach events.

A valid driver's license, the ability to swim, experience with Microsoft Office365, and a background in the natural sciences (environmental science, natural resources, ecology and evolutionary biology, etc.) are required. The successful applicant will be required to have or obtain a CT Safe Boating Certificate. Experience with boating, ESRI ArcGIS software, webpage editing, remote sensing, and drone flights are a plus. The position is available from June 1, 2026, through October 30, 2026. Hours may be adjusted to accommodate school schedules for the Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 semesters. The salary is $17/hour for a 35-hour work week.
