Seasonal Restoration Technician I

We are currently seeking a seasonal Restoration Technician to join our crew.

Responsibilities include: 

• Invasive plant control through foliar spray and chainsaw work
• Assisting with native landscaping projects
• Management data recording and tracking
• Tool and equipment maintenance

Required Qualifications:

• Experience working in restoration, landscaping, farming, or related fields
• Ability to perform physically demanding field work 
• Experience working with power tools
• Currently possess or have ability to obtain a State of Michigan Herbicide Applicator License

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Familiarity with native plant and weed identification skills 
• Experience with handheld GPS units
• Skilled in repairing power tools
• Adept at navigating on foot in natural areas
• Skilled in map interpretation and orienting oneself in the landscape
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Experience driving and backing trailers 
• Experience operating ATVs

Hours and Schedule: 

• June 1 - September 30 (approximately): 10 hour workdays (Monday – Thursday)
• Opportunity to work occasional overtime hours (Fridays)

Compensation:

• Pay is dependent on experience ($17 - $19+/hr)

About our work environment and the people who thrive here

This is very physically demanding field work and involves chain sawing, applying herbicides, hauling brush, heavy lifting, and long days. We work in upland and wetland settings, around poison ivy, poison sumac, biting/stinging insects, and in all weather conditions. While this role will involve a variety of restoration and native landscaping experiences, the bulk of time spent will be conducting invasive species control via chainsaw cutting/herbicide application and foliar spraying in long days in various natural areas in Southeast Michigan.
