Grouse Mountain is seeking field technicians to support their Buffalo, WY, field office during spring/summer 2026. Buffalo is located at the base of the Bighorn Mountains. Field work will include conducting greater sage-grouse lek counts and searches (ground and aerial), raptor nest searches, raptor nesting occupancy/productivity surveys, swift fox clearance surveys and nocturnal spotlight surveys, amphibian surveys, and migratory bird clearance surveys. Avian surveys will make up the bulk of field work; however, surveys will also be conducted for other sensitive plants/animal species and wetland habitats. Post-field data management will involve following company-specific protocols to ensure complete and consistent data. Strong attention to detail is necessary. Travel is a large part of the position. The individual will be stationed out of Buffalo, WY, but may conduct surveys throughout the Rocky Mountain region. Previous experience conducting avian surveys within the western region is preferred. Limited housing may be available on a first-come basis; otherwise, a housing stipend will be provided. Positions would start early April and last through mid to late July 2026. 

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in wildlife biology related field
  • Previous experience conducting wildlife surveys
  • Extensive experience identifying avian species in the western region
  • Individuals must be in good physical condition capable of hiking long distances through variable terrain
  • Experience operating off-road vehicles, hauling trailers, and navigating through remote areas
  • Comfortable working independently and conducting surveys in extreme temperatures 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience conducting raptor nesting/breeding surveys
  • Experience conducting surveys for other species of concern, sensitive species, and T&E species within the western region
  • Experience conducting avian point counts and migratory bird surveys
  • Experience operating GPS, such as Field Maps or Collector, as well as Microsoft software
