About Taproot Earth

Taproot Earth is a U.S.-based non-profit/non-governmental organization with a strong commitment toward advancing Black liberation and Indigenous sovereignty as an essential element of achieving climate justice. As a frontline-rooted organization based in the Gulf South, working in Appalachia and amplifying solutions from the global Black diaspora, Taproot Earth invests in frontline communities and facilitates processes that build power and cultivate climate solutions that advance justice, democracy, climate reparations, and community stewardship so we can all live, rest, and thrive in the places we love. Headquartered in Louisiana, with offices in Pennsylvania, Taproot Earth is a time-bound political project slated to complete its work in 2030.

Taproot Earth’s work is grounded in the belief that those most impacted by climate change must be at the center of shaping the solutions. Through community-led organizing, political education, strategic partnerships, and systems-change initiatives, the organization supports frontline leaders in advancing policies, practices, and investments that repair harm and build long-term resilience. By aligning movement building with policy advocacy, and resource mobilization, Taproot Earth works to shift power, narratives, and decision-making toward community stewardship and self-determination. This approach prioritizes ancestral knowledge, land-based traditions, and collective care while challenging extractive systems that have historically marginalized Black and Indigenous communities. As a time-bound organization, Taproot Earth maintains a focused and accountable approach to achieving measurable impact by 2030, strengthening community capacity and leaving lasting infrastructure for justice, healing, and sustainability beyond the life of the organization.

The Opportunity

The Senior Director of Financial Systems plays a key role in ensuring the smooth financial operations in the areas of budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and compliance for the organization. This is a critical role that underpins all of Taproot Earth’s work. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Director of Financial Systems will help advise, design, and build out processes and practices toward an “abundance-based approach” that supports Taproot’s climate justice finance work. This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled leader who brings deep financial expertise, the ability to envision, design, and implement new systems and models that enable community governance of shared resources, and the desire to be part of a highly collaborative and deeply mission-driven team.
