Founded in 2002, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with 60+ partner groups, its Corporate Council, and its 140,000 members and supporters to guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish. We unite and amplify our partners’ voices by strengthening federal policy and funding around conservation, habitat, and access.
The TRCP is looking for an experienced government affairs professional to join its advocacy team as the Senior Manager of Government Affairs In this position, you will be responsible for lobbying in support of a wide range of natural resource policy issues. This is not an entry level position, and prior experience working on Capitol Hill or advocating before Congress is required.
The Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and participating in campaigns to support the TRCP’s legislative agenda, lobbying Congress and the Administration on conservation priorities and funding and working in a variety of issue-oriented coalitions.
The Senior Manager will report to the Vice President of Government Affairs, coordinate regularly with TRCP’s policy center directors and field staff, and may supervise the work of interns and fellows as appropriate. This position is based out of the TRCP’s Washington, D.C. office; candidates must be able to work in person.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing strategic legislative campaigns to support the TRCP’s priorities in Congress, including on the topics of public lands, fresh water, fisheries, and private lands
- Building relationships and representing the TRCP in meetings with members of Congress and congressional staff, and other key federal decisionmakers
- Drafting blog posts, fact sheets, talking points, and other outreach and communications materials
- Conducting policy research and analysis of legislation moving through Congress, such as the Farm Bill, annual appropriations.
- Coordinating with TRCP’s conservation, field, and communications staff to advance policy priorities and develop strategic communications products.
- Serving as a TRCP liaison to various partner-based coalitions
Minimum Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in the legislative arena, including previous Hill, administration, campaign, or nonprofit experience (2+ years of direct Hill or Administration experience preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of the federal legislative process
- The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with congressional staff
- Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple priorities within a diverse legislative portfolio
- Excellent communications, analytical, writing, and research skills
