SHOOTING SPORTS & RANGE COORDINATOR – Position #K0233959
This unclassified, full-time position is located in the Education Division and is directly supervised by the Education Division Director. The primary duty location will be determined depending on the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists the Hunter Education Coordinator in planning, coordinating and conducting the activities of the Kansas Hunter Education Program throughout the state.
- Conducts the training of instructors and incorporation of the Hunter Education in our Schools Program.
- Certified in and coordinates the following K-12 shooting sports programs: National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), Varsity Archery Program, Student Air Rifle Program (SAR).
- Works directly with K-12 schools and universities to host trainings for outdoor skills programs, assist non-government organizations with forming on-campus chapters to create social support and reach culturally diverse groups, connect students to mentored hunts and promote field to fork events.
- Plans, coordinates and conducts the shooting range plan.
- Monitors the daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reporting from the ranges in addition to adjusting the existing shooting range plan which includes firearms and archery ranges on KDWP owned and managed lands.
- As necessary and as assigned by supervisor, prepare reports, public program presentations, and other documents.
- Facilitates or assists assigned coordinators / administrators in: hunter education, fur harvester education, bowhunter education, shooting sports (the National Archery in Schools program; the Student Air Rifle program; shotgun shooting sports; rifle shooting sports), Becoming an Outdoors Woman and R3 outdoor engagement events.
- This position will require travel across the entire state with some overnight stays away from the office.

Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of experience in providing direction necessary to implement the objectives of an agency, program or organizational unit. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant to the agency.
- Four years of work or study in education or natural resources is preferred.
- Public speaking and classroom presentation skills, along with proven writing skills and abilities are a plus.
- Preferred applicants will have experience with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), video capture, editing and production and training materials.
- The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a background in outdoor recreation, wildlife, hunting and shooting.
- This position requires the use of a firearm for live-fire instruction, hunting and simulated hunting situations. Candidates cannot have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check are required.
