Job Summary:

In conjunction with the Regional Director and rest of the Carbon Team, the Manager oversees the technical assistance delivery provided to landowners and supervises a team of Family Forest Carbon Program on-staff and consulting foresters. This position has a range of responsibilities, including establishing standard operating procedures for efficiently scheduling forester visits, coordinated follow-up and feedback from consultants, and increasing efficiency and reducing cost of forester assistance during the landowner acquisition stage. In addition, the Manager will strategically improve program delivery will help to provide landowners the best possible outcomes, including contributing to sustainable business operations. In conjunction with the Regional Director, the Manager will coordinate a technical assistance strategy to best support small and underserved landowners in the south. The Manager works collaboratively with other regional team members, particularly the Account Management team and the Engagement Steward, partners, and landowners to ensure a positive landowner experience and seek ways to streamline and improve the program for landowners.

Qualifications and Experience that will help you Succeed


  • Successful applicants will fulfill the requirements of the North Carolina State Board of Registration for Foresters such as: A current forestry license or registration in good standing with one of the states that has reciprocity agreements with NC (i.e. Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, or South Carolina) with at least 3 years of experience; OR
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in forest management from a curriculum accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF) with at least 3 years of experience; OR
  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related Natural Resources curriculum with the course requirements needed to take the SAF Certified Forester’s Examination with at least 3 years of experience; OR
  • If the candidate has not completed one of the three above criteria, then they must have six years of full-time forestry work experience


  • Experience working in a customer service role and/or directly with forest landowners with demonstrated positive outcomes.
  • Familiarity with forest dendrology and mensuration.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring others with demonstrated positive outcomes.
  • Familiarity/experience with cost share programs available to forest landowners.
  • Proficient in communicating information and active listening over the telephone.
  • Familiarity with wildlife conservation, resilience, and climate change mitigation a plus.
  • Experience working with underserved landowners.
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of landowners from diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in GIS/GPS a plus.
