The New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute at NM Highlands University is seeking a Spatial Analyst Post- doctoral Scholar with expertise in fire modeling and remote sensing to support the collaborative ReSHAPE project (reshapewildfire.org). This critical research will improve our understanding of how fuel treatments affect wildfire behavior.
This is a 2 year, grant-funded position with hybrid/remote work options. You will be mentored by experienced GIS professionals and have ample opportunities for professional development.
The successful candidate would:
- Process large remote sensing datasets (Landsat, Sentinel-2) using R/Python and Google Earth Engine.
- Apply machine learning and regression models for ecological insights.
- Develop reproducible, scalable methodologies.
- Produce science-based products to support land management decisions.
- Travel to conferences and meetings in support of the ReShape Project (reshapewildfire.org)
- Publish in peer-reviewed publications.
Qualifications & Requirements
- PhD in Geospatial Science, Ecology, Forestry, or a related field.
- Expertise in fire modeling and remote sensing.
- Proficiency in coding for spatial analysis (GEE, R, or Python).
