SUMMARY 

The Landscaping Spray Technician is responsible for the safe and effective application of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other landscape treatment products throughout the resort property. This role supports the overall appearance, health, and safety of landscaped areas, including turf, ornamental beds, trees, shrubs, roadways, common areas, and guest-facing spaces. 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Apply herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers, and other approved landscape treatment products in accordance with product labels, application schedules, company procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Inspect turf, ornamental beds, trees, shrubs, hardscape areas, and common areas for weeds, pests, plant disease, nutrient deficiencies, and other landscape concerns.
  • Identify and report pest, weed, disease, irrigation, drainage, and plant-health issues to the Landscape Supervisor or Manager.
  • Mix, load, transport, and apply chemical products safely using proper application methods and required personal protective equipment.
  • Calibrate and operate spray equipment, including backpack sprayers, hand sprayers, spreaders, tank sprayers, pumps, and application vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all chemical applications, including products used, application rates, locations, weather conditions, equipment used, and any observed results or follow-up needs.
  • Review product labels, Safety Data Sheets, and work orders before application to ensure proper handling, mixing, application rates, and re-entry requirements.
  • Maintain chemical storage areas in a clean, secure, organized, and compliant condition.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and report repair needs for spray equipment, landscape tools, vehicles, and personal protective equipment.
  • Follow all required safety protocols for chemical handling, spill prevention, emergency response, storage, transportation, and disposal.
  • Post required signage and follow applicable re-entry intervals after pesticide applications.
  • Monitor weather conditions before and during applications and adjust work plans as needed to prevent drift, runoff, or ineffective treatment.
  • Assist with general landscape maintenance as needed, including weeding, pruning, mulching, planting, irrigation checks, debris removal, and seasonal cleanup.
  • Support the maintenance of high-quality landscaping throughout guest, member, residential, golf, and common areas while minimizing disruption to resort operations.
  • Communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, guests, members, and residents when working in public-facing areas.
  • Report unsafe conditions, chemical spills, damaged equipment, irrigation issues, and property concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, shop, storage facility, and assigned vehicle.
  • Participate in required safety meetings, pesticide training, equipment training, and departmental meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Landscape Supervisor or Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Previous experience in landscape maintenance, groundskeeping, turf care, pest control, or chemical application preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe handling and application practices for fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and related products preferred.
  • Oregon pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain required certification within a designated timeframe preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. 
  • Ability to read and follow product labels, safety data sheets, work orders, and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate application records.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • Dependable attendance and flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal schedules as needed.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Oregon Commercial Pesticide Applicator License required, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily outdoor shifts in all weather conditions from extreme heat to extreme cold.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and smoke conditions when safe to do so.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to safely operate landscape equipment and drive resort vehicles as assigned.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including gloves, protective eyewear, respirators, and protective clothing, when performing chemical applications.
