The Star Valley Ranch (SVR) Trail Crew in partnership with the Bridger-Teton National Forest and Friends of the Bridger Teton are currently accepting applications for two volunteer positions based out of Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming.
Time Frame:
- Generally June - August with flexible start/end dates

- Per diems or stipends available (up to five days a week at a rate of $41/day) for qualifying individuals
Volunteer Duties:
- Educational outreach to trail users and visitors about responsible recreation, no motor vehicle rules, and wildlife encounters (e.g., moose, bear, mountain lion), including at local events (e.g., Arbor Day, Public Safety Day, War-on-Weeds Day, Garage Sale for Trails, 4th of July Celebration).
- Hike trails biweekly to monitor trail conditions (e.g. downed trees, other maintenance issues) and engage hikers with Leave No Trace practices, threats or other relevant information.
- Monitor mutt mitt dispensers and encourage responsible pet ownership on national forest lands (e.g., pick up after their pets, maintain control either verbal or leashed, especially in areas moose frequent).
- Monitor known problem locations weekly and steward as needed.
- Install posts, maps, and signage.
- Data collection on visitor/user encounters, unattended and/or escaped campfires, and instances of unsecured food or trash.
- Host an educational booth as a resource to the public once a week at trailheads and other local recreational areas to share information on trails, USFS rules & regulations, responsible recreation, fire restrictions, community happenings & local events, and more.
- Assist with invasive weed control at trailheads and along trails.
- Professionally and kindly represent the position’s partners as a volunteer to the public.
- Support the SVR Trail Crew 1-3 days per month to learn the local trail systems and maintenance techniques (requires use of hand tools for sweeping, brushing & cutting vegetation, installing rock features, smoothing trail surfaces, etc).
- Monitor service facilities (e.g., trash receptacles, port-o-pottys, mutt mitt dispensers & can) and notify SVR Trail Crew or Town when service is needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
