GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Help tell the story of Wyoming’s wildlife, outdoor opportunities, and conservation efforts across the state.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a creative and dynamic statewide Information Specialist to join our team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This exciting position plays a key role in connecting the public to Wyoming’s fish and wildlife resources through engaging, accurate, and impactful communication across a variety of digital and traditional media platforms.
As the statewide Information Specialist, you will develop and deliver information about the Department’s programs, priorities, and conservation efforts, with a strong emphasis on digital and emerging multimedia platforms. This includes creating compelling content for hunters, anglers, and trappers on how to safely and responsibly enjoy Wyoming’s outdoor opportunities while promoting key Department initiatives identified through the agency’s strategic plan.
This position serves as the lead coordinator for the Department’s email marketing program, reaching more than 500,000 members of the public statewide. The role also develops content for traditional media, social media, websites, graphic design projects, video productions, Wyoming Wildlife magazine, and other outreach platforms.
Success in this role requires exceptional writing, editing, digital marketing, public speaking, and project coordination skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, creative storyteller, and collaborative professional who is passionate about conservation, public engagement, and Wyoming’s outdoor heritage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
- Assist the media team in developing effective communications outreach campaigns that promote agency messaging priorities and assist in education/outreach efforts.
- Produce multimedia products for use in communications efforts, including video, photography, podcasts, and audio/visual media packages.
- Produce short and long-form videos for social media in vertical and horizontal formats.
- Produce written press releases, publication content, and website content. Write internal talking points and communication plans to address ongoing and emerging issues.
- Coordinate with regional staff to travel on site to gather footage and photos of Game and Fish projects, and interview staff for written, visual, and audio stories.
- Maintain an annual content calendar for social media, email campaigns, and media updates.
- Work inter-divisionally to maintain and develop the Game and Fish digital and e-mail marketing program using emerging digital marketing techniques and best practices.
- Develop and send multiple email newsletters monthly: Hunting, Fishing, Wildlife, and Inspire a Kid as well as other targeted customer-service emails per month.
- Track and report social media and email analytics.
- Use emerging and existing trends on digital platforms to maximize relevancy and outreach effectiveness.
- Under the direction of the Public Information Officer, respond to or coordinate answers/interviews for questions from the public and media through in-person conversations, email, phone, website, and social media.
- Attend public events to represent Game and Fish to provide information and education on a variety of department topics.
- Assist with public meetings in person and through digital platforms.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference will be given to those with a bachelor's degree or related degree in journalism, English, marketing/digital marketing, or communications with an emphasis on wildlife or natural resource management or wildlife management and conservation plus 3 years of progressive work experience in public relations.
Preference will be given to candidates attaching a resume and cover letter to the State of Wyoming online application.
**Must have a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of and experience with journalism techniques and best practices, including the Associated Press style.
- Knowledge of digital communication methods, including social media and science communications.
- Knowledge of and experience with public participation techniques.
- Knowledge of wildlife management and conservation principles.
- Knowledge of strategic planning practices.
- Knowledge of conservation education principles.
- Knowledge in the areas of hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife enjoyment, and outdoor recreation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Public Relations)
Experience:0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist II OR Education & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist II Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:None
