JOB OVERVIEW
Gain experience in the field of volunteer stewardship while working with volunteer groups doing land management activities and outreach to local community! Furthermore, the individual in this role will be trained on-the-job for most tasks.
This individual will assist the Stewardship Ecologist with leading volunteer groups for restoration activities such as removing invasive brush, seed collection, seeding, tree planting/caging, fence removal, herbicide treatment, hand pulling weeds, and other seasonal activities as needed. Office-related tasks will include mapping work in GIS, recording volunteer hours, contacting/meeting with partner organizations (especially those that that serve historically underrepresented groups), and planning culturally relevant, accessible restoration activities for interested groups. If interested, individuals will have the opportunity to do plant/wildlife monitoring, participate in research, and assist other natural resources staff with projects.
What are we looking for? The individual should possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, an interest in connecting our community with conservation efforts, and a willingness to learn. Non-traditional students and professionals looking to change careers are welcome to apply. There is a minimum education requirement of being a high school graduate. Course work with an emphasis in Biology, Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or another related program is preferred, but not required. At least (6) six months of experience working with community engagement, environmental education, volunteer stewardship, and/or conservation; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
For your safety and those around you, we require applicants to have a current, valid driver’s license and complete a pre-employment drug screening due to driving being essential to the job.
WORK PERIOD: 500 Hours starting when available with flexible scheduling. 20-30 hour work week typically Monday through Friday, but may be required to work on the weekends or evenings.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: While we do not provide a formal internship program, if you need to obtain college credits through an internship we are open to further discussing with you the criteria your college is looking for in a program to determine if the District has the time and resources to fulfill those needs.
