Wood River Land Trust (WRLT) is a local conservation non-profit working to protect and sustain the treasured landscapes and life-giving waters of the Wood River Valley and to inspire love for this special place for generations to come. Based in Hailey, ID, our staff of 14 serve the Wood River Valley and surrounding areas. We work in partnership with municipalities and other community organizations to protect and manage open spaces that provide places where wildlife can flourish and people can connect to nature and each other.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Stewardship Coordinator supports management of land owned by the Land Trust (20 preserves, approx. 4,300 acres) and performs tasks associated with stewardship of Land Trust properties. This position delivers multi-faceted stewardship of our preserves to accomplish the Land Trust mission per preserve management plans, restoration projects, and enhancement/amenity planning. The Stewardship Coordinator serves as the main connection between our public access preserves and the community, positively representing the Land Trust in public interactions. This position creates stewardship opportunities for school groups, volunteers, and other community members. The Stewardship Coordinator reports to the Stewardship Manager, works closely with other Land Trust staff, and will supervise interns and volunteers. This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits and salary depending on experience. This position requires a B.S. in natural resources or other similar field, or four years equivalent work experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

• Execute management plans for preserves and update as required.
• Oversee preserves, which includes activities like monitoring preserves for enforcement issues, dog waste collection and removal, and controlling noxious weeds, which includes use of herbicide and pesticide.
• Maintain an active presence on the Hailey Greenway and other highly used public access preserves, interact with the public, and create connections between the Land Trust and the community.
• Proactively develop ideas for the enhancement of wildlife habitat and public access on our preserves and assist in the development and implementation of such projects.
• Support land stewardship activities that engage neighbors, school groups, and community members, including assisting with coordination of volunteer workdays.
• Build strong partnerships with neighbors and the community to proactively protect preserves and resolve issues.
• Write grants and form partnerships to facilitate the Land Trust mission.
• Maintain and organize preserve stewardship data, maps, GPS field records, and documentation to support monitoring and project implementation.
• Assist with conservation planning, acquisitions, and restoration.
• Coordinate with Development staff to inform potential donors of stewardship activities.
• Perform monitoring site visits and accountable for accurate records keeping.
• May oversee interns or contractors, as needed.

OTHER DUTIES:

• All Land Trust employees are expected to assist, as needed, in events, fundraising, and strategic planning.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

o Bachelor’s Degree in natural resources or other similar field, or four years equivalent work experience.

Preferred Experience:

o Two years of experience managing land to benefit fish and wildlife populations and provide safe enjoyment to the public.
o Experience with a Land Trust or managing publicly accessible lands.
o Experience, coursework, or other training in the principles and practices of land and conservation easement stewardship and defense.
o Experience collecting GPS data, using ArcGIS, and organizing data.
o Experience with maintenance and operation of handheld power tools, trailers, and OHVs.
o Training and experience with proper use and application of herbicides.

Skills & Abilities:

o Ability to deal effectively and personably with a variety of people, including landowners, agency personnel, the public, donors, and volunteers.
o Ability to identify noxious and non-noxious weed species within central Idaho.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and experience with ArcGIS Pro.
o Ability to perform strenuous outdoor labor, frequently exposed to high precarious places, moving mechanical parts, and all outside weather conditions.
o Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
o Ability to walk over uneven ground, often for 8+ hours.
o Keen attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
o Ability to work accurately, independently, and efficiently.
o Ability to set priorities, manage time and diverse activities, remain flexible under pressure, and manage multiple projects/deadlines efficiently.
o Willingness and ability to address conflict in a constructive manner.
o Desire to be a team player and positive representative of the Wood River Land Trust.
o Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include some weekends and evenings.
o Valid driver’s license.
