POSITION SUMMARY
The Stewardship Coordinator is responsible for implementing and documenting the Kansas Land Trust’s (KLT) conservation easement stewardship program in alignment with the Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices, funder requirements, and KLT policies. This position ensures that all required monitoring, recordkeeping, and communication related to stewardship activities are completed accurately, in a timely manner, and professionally to maintain accreditation and organizational credibility.
The Stewardship Coordinator must be highly self-directed, confident in navigating complex issues, comfortable following and implementing organizational policies, able to work independently, and capable of maintaining productive, healthy professional relationships with landowners, volunteers, board members, colleagues, and external partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Stewardship and Monitoring
• Implement KLT’s annual conservation easement monitoring program, including scheduling and coordinating annual stewardship responsibilities that integrate the use of aerial imagery and site visits by volunteers and staff.
• Ensure all monitoring is completed, documented in accordance with established standards, and reports are shared with the appropriate partners by annual deadlines.
• Maintain easement and stewardship records including correspondence, ownership and contact information, reporting, databases, and document management systems.
• Develop, maintain, and improve stewardship tracking systems and documentation processes to improve efficiency, continuity, and organizational growth.
Landowner and Volunteer Engagement
• Respond to landowner requests and inquiries regarding conservation easements, stewardship matters, and general land management questions in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain positive, constructive relationships with owners and managers of protected lands.
• Support and assist with onboarding and engagement of volunteer monitors, including ongoing coordination, as needed.
• Support landowner communication efforts in coordination with the Engagement Committee, including onboarding new conservation landowners.
Compliance and Enforcement Support
• Identify easement issues and report issues and suspected conservation easement violations in accordance with KLT’s Enforcement Policy.
• Coordinate and execute issue and violation resolution with landowners and managers as directed.
• Ensure timely communication, follow-up, and resolution of issues.
Organizational Support
• As directed, assist with site evaluations, baseline documentation reports, and stewardship components of new conservation projects.
• Participate in Staff, Committee, and Board of Directors meetings as requested.
• Prepare maps, summaries, and briefing materials to support stewardship activities and Board or committee communications.
• Stay current on best practices related to land stewardship, conservation easements, and accreditation standards.
• Support and attend outreach, programs, and educational activities as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in conservation, land stewardship, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly with documentation and recordkeeping.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to manage deadlines effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work collaboratively within a small organization.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to conservation properties as required.
PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to conduct site visits, including walking on uneven terrain and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment.

ABOUT KLT
The Kansas Land Trust is a non-profit conservation organization that works with voluntary landowners, community partners, and other conservation organizations to permanently protect land with ecological, agricultural, scenic, cultural, and recreational significance in Kansas.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
KLT offers the flexibility of a remote office. However, all staff must live in the areas where we work and must be willing and able to convene regularly in person for meetings, events, and programs. Programming regularly occurs outdoors on uneven terrain.
