Supervisor:        Land Manager / Land Management Specialist

Location:             Primarily Clay County and Putnam County

Term:                   2024 Summer Semester (May 14th through Aug 8th)

Position Description:

This internship is designed to introduce practical skills and concepts used by land managers to enhance the quality of Florida’s natural landscapes. This position will work closely with North Florida Land Trust’s Stewardship department to accomplish resource management goals regarding exotic species removal, prescribed fire implementation, data collection, and much more.

Responsibilities:

  • Exotic species management
  • Prescribed fire preparation and participation
  • Data Collection and reporting
  • Preserve Monitoring
  • Outreach Events
  • Habitat Restoration
  • Preserve Maintenance

Position Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for environmental conservation and land management.
  • Currently pursuing or holding a degree in a related field, such as environmental science, ecology biology, forestry, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Additional information

  • This is an unpaid internship; however, NFLT will cover the registration costs for Basic Wildland Firefighter S-130/S-190/L-180, provided the training coincides with the term of the internship.
  • This position also provides opportunities to learn about using GIS in a field setting, native and non-native species identification, power equipment and chainsaw use, heavy equipment use, equipment management, monitoring protocol on preserved fee lands and conservation easements, and much more.
  • The workday obligations are two (2) full workdays per week, Tuesday and Thursday.
