Overview
The Stewardship Intern will support FBSR’s water testing efforts by collecting water samples, maintaining testing equipment, updating and managing testing results, and assisting with analyzing and distributing data. Additionally, they will help monitor and steward our conservation easements and assist with on-the-ground projects and river clean-up efforts as needed. The position will work closely with the Education and Outreach Manager and Executive Director. Training is provided.

Compensation
40 hours/week at $19/hour; Mileage and supply reimbursement for water testing

Hours and Schedule
Limited-term, full-time, non-exempt position; generally, Monday-Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, some Saturdays and evenings may be required for special events 

Timeframe
May through August, with potential for extension based on need and funding

FBSR Office in Sioux Falls; Hybrid Work Potential 

Responsibilities

Water Testing

  • Collect water samples
  • Maintain testing equipment
  • Manage testing results
  • Analyze and distribute data

Easement Monitoring

  • Maintain mapping data
  • Develop and manage new monitoring reports
  • Help work through the easement development process

Additional Projects

  • Help develop a DIY rain garden plan
  • Help coordinate and execute events
  • Help lead river clean-up events
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A passion for conservation and water quality
  • Willingness to drive 100 miles in one day each week
  • Willingness to work in the field and around water
  • Working knowledge of data collection
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with people of all ages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Canva
  • Access to a personal vehicle for water testing is required

Friends of the Big Sioux River seeks applicants who have recently completed their bachelor’s degree or who are current part-time or full-time students at a college, university, or technical institute. All applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the time they apply and have a valid driver’s license. The applicant must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
