Stewardship Program Coordinator 
The Stewardship Program Coordinator position implements NSEA’s community outreach, education, and restoration programs. They facilitate salmon habitat restoration projects through our Stream Stewards Program, helping to recruit, train, and increase our volunteer capacity. They support habitat monitoring such as seasonal vegetation and spawner surveys in collaboration with our projects team. They also help the Salmon Discovery Program by recruiting and supporting Salmon Spotter volunteers. 

Employee Classification: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt 
Supervised by: Stewardship Program Manager 
Supervises: Interns and volunteers 

Responsibilities 
Facilitate Stream Stewards Programming 

  • Plan, promote, and facilitate Stream Stewards programming, including community and private work parties
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Future Leaders of Whatcom Waters program interns and community volunteers  
  • Assist in outreach efforts for the program, including producing outreach materials, tabling events, and creating content for social media and NSEA website  
  • Assist in collection and maintenance of community program data, including photos, restoration data, and volunteer information and interviews 

Support Monitoring and Salmon Discovery Programming

  • Plan, promote, and facilitate Salmon Discovery Programming, including Salmon Sighting events and Salmon Spotter community science project
  • Recruit, train, and supervise community volunteers  
  • Assist in outreach efforts for the program, including producing outreach materials and creating content for social media and NSEA website  
  • Assist in the collection and maintenance of program data, including photos, participation data, and volunteer information and interviews. 
  • Conduct seasonal monitoring including vegetation, water quality, and spawner surveys (dependent on funding) 

Organization and Program Support  

  • Provide support to other programming efforts, cross training in respective programs, including assisting with Students for Salmon programming
  • Table at outreach booths, assist in the production of outreach materials, conduct public presentations, update social media feeds, and assist with NSEA events
  • Attend staff meetings, board meetings, retreats, and NSEA events, as needed
  • Assist in maintenance and organization of program supplies, files, and vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • 18 years or older
  • Professional and effective written and oral communication skills  
  • Experience maintaining a functional office environment  
  • Skills in time management, organization, and communication  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, and databases  
  • Passion for NSEA’s mission in local salmon recovery; enthusiastic and energetic  
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment  
  • Willingness to work in both an indoor and outdoor setting, in all types of weather
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three years 

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Prior leadership experience in outdoor education, volunteer coordination, and/or community outreach
  • Experience with NSEA
  • Familiar with native and invasive plant species and identification
  • Familiar with salmon ecology and species identification
  • Bi-lingual 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 
Physical requirements of this job include regularly typing and utilizing a computer and sitting/standing at desk for long periods of time. Position requires lifting, bending, walking/working outdoors on rough terrain, in all types of weather conditions and the ability to lift heavy event supplies, up to 40 pounds. Typical work hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 40 hours per week with some flexibility in scheduled hours and hybrid work options. The position is approximately 60% field-based and 40% office-based but varies based on the season. Work weeks fluctuate and will include weekend and evening events. 

Compensation  

  • $23 per hour, 40 hours per week
