POSITION TITLE: Stewardship Technician

STATUS: Seasonal (September – December) full-time, hourly non-exempt

REPORTS TO:  Stewardship Specialist
POSITIONS REPORTING TO THIS POSITION: None 

LOCATION: Smith Valley, NV

EXPECTED PAY RANGE: from $20-23/hr DOE

Description: The Stewardship Technician is responsible for implementing stewardship projects in the Walker Basin and beyond. Stewardship activities include fuels management and conifer removal, mechanical and chemical weed control, wildlife friendly fence construction, irrigation installation and operation, native plant revegetation, trail building and recreation enhancement, process-based stream restoration, and other stream and wetland improvements. Stewardship Technicians work on small teams with other Technicians and at the direction of a Stewardship Specialist, often in remote locations requiring camping for four to eight days at a time.

The ideal candidate will

• Enjoy working outside, often on four-day overnight hitches, in challenging conditions.
• Be organized and efficient in the field and work well in a team.
• Have experience in native plant revegetation or chainsaw use (certification preferred).
• Have a desire to develop skills and qualifications across a range of restoration techniques.

• Contributes to the success of a variety of conservation projects with a primary focus of forestry/fuels, invasive plant management, or native plant revegetation.

Requirements

• Experience with native planting project and/or fuels management, with interest or experience in other areas such as invasive management, fence building, trail building, or stream restoration. Sawyer certification a plus.
• Commitment to meeting objectives of diverse projects. Ability to solve problems in the field and pivot based on shifting priorities.
• Ability/desire to work long hours in the field, often on 4-8 day hitches in remote settings.

WBC has limited, optional housing accommodations that are available to seasonal staff depending on availability and capacity. Housing is generally dorm style, sometimes with shared bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and common spaces. Staff living in housing are required to sign a lease and pay monthly rent.
