Structural Bird Control Technician/Canine Handler (One position)

Current position is for a Part Time (to potentially FT) employee in the Detroit area, that is willing to travel and to be able to keep a company vehicle at their home, and house a working dog (based on work). Unique job opportunity in a new area, so hours will vary (up to FT hours in peak seasons) based on what work is available. Paid training/travel to come to our Chicago, Milwaukee, and Indianapolis branches. This would be a good position for those with another PT job that might want branch out to do more.

Wild Goose Chase (WGC) and Migratory Bird Management (MBM) perform a variety of control services that help customers solve pest bird problems related to Canada geese, gulls, pigeons, sparrows, starlings, and other pest birds.

This work is led by the combination of Supervisor teams: Field Operations Manager, Special Ops Manager, and Dog Trainer and is completed together with the Structural Bird Control Technician/Canine Handler performing a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: directing dog to disperse Canada geese from a property, cleaning nesting material and feces from surfaces, preparing surfaces for the installation of various custom and stock bird control devices, installation of these devices, and completing job setups and job takedowns. To perform these tasks, the following are mandatory and required for the laborer position which requires you to:

  • Have a valid state driver’s license.
  • Have a clean MVR (driving record)
  • Be drug & substance free.
  • Be able to drive a minimum of 100 miles a day.
  • Be able to read a map and know directions.
  • Have a professional appearance, including a company uniform while working.
  • Be available for weekend work.
  • Have staggered work start times and ending times that are irregular and varied based on weather and servicing conditions.
  • Work before sunrise and after sunset at times
  • Be out in all kinds of weather.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Be able to bend over frequently.
  • Handle a dog physically.
  • Be able to keep a dog/company vehicle at home.
  • Use English for commanding dogs on what is required of them.
  • Be able to get in and out of a vehicle with dogs multiple times in a day based on the number of accounts being serviced in a 4-10 hour shift and can be as many as 30 times getting out and 30 times getting in the vehicle.
  • Be in an enclosed vehicle with dog(s) that may be wet for an extended period of time.
  • Be able to walk on natural terrain, including slopes, and other irregular surfaces of all kinds.
  • Be able to use Agrilaser (handheld laser) and Aerotrooper(RC boat) safely in the field as a tool needed when not using a dog.
  • Be able to keep safety top priority and take proper safety measures depending on the circumstance (such as wearing proper PPE).
  • Need to be comfortable working on elevated roofs on a regular basis.
  • Be able to safely climb and work from fixed, extension, and step ladders of varying heights.
  • Be able to safely carry, set up, and load/unload ladders up to 28 feet by yourself.
  • Be able to bend, stoop, and kneel multiple times throughout the day to carry and install equipment and materials.
  • Be able to safely use a variety of fall protection and PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Be able to pass a medical evaluation and fit test for respirator use.
  • Be familiar with and able to operate a variety of handheld and power tools.
  • Be able to operate and work from aerial man lifts.
  • Be able to load, hook up, and safely tow trailers with appropriate vehicles.
  • You should be available for an average 35 hours per week during peak season.
  • Peak-Season is described as March 1st thru June 30th and August 1st thru November 30th
  • Non peak season hours may be greatly reduced.
  • Have a working cell phone and familiar with Apps.
  • Have email accessibility, the company does provide an email address for company business only.
