Position Purpose
Spend your summer with us teaching camp programs to encourage wonder, curiosity, connection, and excitement for nature while ensuring the health and safety of each participant. Leading a camp classroom successfully requires the Summer Camp Instructor to teach curriculum, monitor a room of up to seventeen campers ages 7-11. This role requires adherence to State licensure standards.
This is a non-benefitted position.
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week for 13 weeks (May 18-22, 26-29 mandatory training, June 1-August 7 for camp, August 10-14 camp breakdown and reset).
Essential Job Functions
- Follows curriculum to deliver creative and age-appropriate activities for new themes each week.
- Works with a team of educators, interns, and volunteers to implement a successful and flexible daily program.
- Works collaboratively to manage the classroom and lead a group of up to seventeen campers through program rotations, free-time activities, games, and daily outdoor nature hikes within Majestic View Park.
- Provides for the health and safety of campers at all times.
- Maintains a safe, clean, well-stocked, and organized program area, both inside the classrooms and outside areas.
- Attends and participates in all designated staff meetings and training sessions.
- Understands all emergency procedures associated with summer camp.
- Monitors camper behavior, enforces safety regulations, and follows camp protocol for intervention, reporting, and requesting support as per procedure.
- Serves as a positive role model for campers and volunteers.
- Prepares for daily activities by becoming familiar with curriculum, making sample crafts, and understanding activities before program rotations.
- Assists other educators in daily check-in and check-out, communicates with parents, coworkers, and campers.
- Interacts with live animals, outdoor spaces, and biofacts to demonstrate science-based concepts to camp participants.
- Implements all policies and procedures to meet the State license requirements.

- Ability to perform manual duties associated with the programs and facility: arranging tables, chairs and equipment, leading outdoor activities, cleaning classrooms.
- Basic knowledge and interest in the environment and wildlife.
- Ability to interact comfortably with school-aged children and parents.
- Demonstrates an enthusiastic, fun, and patient approach to supporting children’s learning and exploration.
License & Certification

Within three (3) months of hire date, must complete state-required training through Colorado Shines.
Education Degree

High School/GED
Work Experience Required
-
Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in a camp, school, or child care setting.
Work Experience Preferred
-
Education in environmental fields or previous experience in a similar educational, instructional camp environment is a plus.
Other Qualifications
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Successfully pass all background checks upon employment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Physical Demands
-
Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
Hazards

Occasional hazards that are predictable or well protected against (Hazardous waste, ladders, cleaning supplies, trips and falls.
Work Environment

Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
