Summer Conservation Crew Member
Compensation: $300 per week*, plus room & board, transportation, on the job training *Possible AmeriCorps Education Award available upon successful completion
Position Overview:
WisCorps crews complete high-priority conservation projects across Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest. Projects may include trail restoration, habitat restoration, invasive species management, and carpentry projects. Crew Members camp out with their crew near their project sites and travel throughout Wisconsin.
Crew Member Responsibilities:
- Work hard as a team to accomplish conservation projects
- Maintain personal safety on and off the worksite
- Be an active and contributing member of the crew community
- Practice Leave No Trace principles and sustainable living techniques
- Abide by all WisCorps and AmeriCorps policies and procedures
Crew Member Qualifications:
- 18-25 years old
- Experience in outdoor recreation
- Passionate about environmental causes and being a part of a community surrounding environmental service
- Willingness to learn various conservation practices or land management techniques
- Enjoys hard work and has a good sense of humor
- Prepared to undergo a criminal background check
Summer Crew Member Positions Available:
Roving Crew
- Travel throughout Wisconsin working and learning about conservation projects alongside non-profits, county and state agency staff
- Projects include trail building/maintenance, invasive species management, carpentry, and tree planting
Wetland Restoration Crew
- Work and learn about wetland restoration in the Indiana Dunes National Park alongside National Park Service staff
- Projects include backpack spraying invasive species, planting native species, seed collection, and habitat restoration
Wilderness Crew
- Work and learn about backcountry trails in Isle Royale National Park alongside National Park Service staff (First half of Summer)
- Finish the second half of the summer traveling throughout Wisconsin like a Roving Crew
Mayor's Crew
- Complete community-based projects, must be a high school student living in La Crosse, Wisconsin
- Projects include community revitalization projects, assisting non-profit organizations, habitat restoration in parks
