Position Description: Summer Land Stewardship Assistant

Location: This position is based in the North County Land Trust Office in Leominster, MA. Work will require travel across the Montachusett region of the north central Massachusetts – roughly Ayer to Templeton and Ashby to Princeton.

Reports To: Director of Land Programs

Hours: 20 hrs/week

We work directly with communities to conserve land and water resources, farms, urban parks, working forests and scenic landscapes for the benefit of all. Position Summary: North County Land Trust seeks a self-motivated individual with a desire to learn and a positive attitude. The Summer Land Stewardship Assistant will work under the Director of Land Programs to plan and run volunteer workdays, maintain tools and equipment, monitor and maintain properties and trails, and assist with other organizational programs and events as needed. Much of the work takes place outdoors maintaining and improving the trails in all weather conditions as well as managing and working with volunteers. Potential 2026 projects include trail maintenance, identification and removal of invasive species, community science programs, small construction projects, and assistance with habitat restoration projects ongoing. Through these projects the Summer Land Stewardship Assistant strengthens NCLT’s land protection and community outreach efforts. The culture of NCLT is collaborative and supportive.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest and/or educational background in environmental science, environmental studies, environmental education, conservation, biology, botany, wildlife, natural resources, or related field;
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions with a positive attitude;
  • Flexibility, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, desire and willingness to learn;
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work sites in north central Massachusetts;
  • A plus if candidate has experience working with volunteers, on a trail crew, or has competency with GIS but not required.
