Green Valleys Watershed Association, located near Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, seeks energetic and self-motivated individuals to lead educational programming for children who will attend our 2018 Summer Nature Day Camp.

For 8 weeks during the summer, nature camp hosts children in preschool through 7th grades at our 197-acre headquarters, Welkinweir.

Nature camps encourage children’s natural curiosity of the outdoors by engaging them in fun and educational activities, discovery, exploration, and play.

Job Description:

Senior Camp Counselors will develop, prepare, and lead age-appropriate, environmental education activities at Welkinweir, based on the curriculum and resources provided.

Senior Counselors will manage up to 13 children per week, in the grade group of their choice, and effectively communicate with parents regarding their children’s camp experiences. Senior Counselors will be assisted by the Junior Counselors or Counselors in Training assigned to their groups.

For Grades 4 through 7, the position also includes leading two or more Thursday Overnight programs. For the 6-7th grade campers, off-site field trips are also included.

All Senior Counselors will supervise one or more weeks of the After Camp Care program from 3:00-5:30 p.m.

Education and Experience Required:

  • College students or college graduates are invited to apply. Experience and/or have a major or degree in environmental education, environmental science, elementary education, or related fields.
  • Experience working with children in a structured setting, such as a school, and/or a summer camp.
  • Aptitude for learning basic natural history/ecology concepts and activities, as necessary.
  • Experience and comfort in taking children into outdoor, natural settings.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to be a creative and flexible leader and team player.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass three background checks.
  • Must acquire current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Housing is not provided. Must have own reliable transportation.

Required Dates and Hours:

Preparation week: June 11-15, 2018; 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Camp weeks: 5 to 8 weeks between June 18 and August 10, 2018.

Hours: Staff hours 8:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; Camp hours 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.; After Camp Care 3:00-5:30 p.m.

Salary:  $8.00/hour
