Apogee Adventures is seeking a seeking a creative and motivated Social Media & Marketing Intern to join our office team for the 2026 summer season. This is a newly created role and an exciting opportunity for someone who wants hands-on experience in the outdoor industry and the chance to help shape how our adventure programs are promoted. Summer is our busiest and most dynamic time of year, and we’re looking for someone who can capture authentic moments from our programs and turn them into engaging content we can use both during the peak season and throughout the year. The ideal candidate has experience managing social media platforms, enjoys creative storytelling, and is eager to try new ideas while building real-world marketing skills.
About Apogee
Apogee offers summer outdoor adventure programs to teenagers. We provide students with well-designed hiking, biking, community service, and writing programs varying in length from one to four weeks in spectacular locations throughout North America, Europe, and Latin America.
Apogee’s primary goals are for students to experience a strong sense of community, build their confidence, and gain a greater appreciation for the outdoors. We want our students to return home with a sense of accomplishment and selfconfidence that carries over into all aspects of life - and we strive for our seasonal and full-time staff to gain as much from these experiences as our students.
Marketing Intern Job Duties & Responsibilities
While the below job duties are the primary areas of responsibility for this position, as a small business we often ask employees to pitch in with job functions outside their primary areas when a business need is presented, so interns can expect to occasionally be doing work outside of the duties listed below. We can provide more information regarding any of the responsibilities below - please just ask!
- Create, manage, and schedule content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and others as appropriate).
- Assist in writing our daily summer blog.
- Capture photo and video content during programs and daily operations.
- Edit content for posts, reels, stories, and future marketing use.
- Collaborate with staff to brainstorm and test creative content ideas.
- Help build and organize a content library for year-round marketing use.
- Plan additional marketing projects such as email campaigns, promotions, or website updates.
- Monitor engagement and support basic performance tracking.
- Ensure content aligns with our brand, values, and safety standards.
- Correspond with client families in a professional manner via both email and phone.
- Assist with the day-to-day operation of our summer programs.
Reports To: Associate Director / Director(s)
Location: Brunswick, Maine (remote work is not allowed)
Term: This is a seasonal internship, starting on May 27, 2026 and ending on August 13, 2026.
Working Hours: This is a full-time position, meaning applicants can expect to work roughly 37 to 40 hours per week, generally over the course of five working days in a week (with two days off each week). Due to the nature of Apogee’s programming, the two off days each week may be non-consecutive and will not always correspond with weekends. This position is eligible to work overtime (more than 40 hours in a week) if a business need is presented and approved by a supervisor.
Compensation: The summer salary for this role is $6,700. The position is eligible for overtime pay, but all overtime must be approved by a supervisor (see working hours section, above). Note that Apogee offers a room and board plan for interns who would need summer housing in Brunswick, Maine. This room & board plan costs $200 a week and provides housing and meals throughout the course of employment. The R&B plan, if elected, would be deducted from the summer salary.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
o Age 18 or older
o Valid Driver’s License
o Previous experience managing social media accounts for an organization, brand, or group
o Coursework or degree in marketing preferred, but not required
Demonstrable Skills
o Interpersonal competency and emotional maturity
o Strong interest in content creation, digital marketing, or communications
o Photo and video shooting and editing skills
o Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
o Highly organized and outstanding attention to detail
o Excellent initiative and follow-through, both working independently and as part of a team
o Willingness to work outdoors and adapt to a fast-paced summer environment
o Nuanced understanding of and dedication to Apogee’s values, culture, and goals
