This candidate will perform a wide range of duties in support of the District’s invasive and nuisance plant management program.  The incumbent will oversee implementation of complex invasive plant control operations in natural areas and project lands. In addition to providing technical oversight and planning of invasive species management projects, the incumbent will review contractor deliverables, track purchase orders, and plan/monitor budgets. The incumbent will also assist other staff with the technical aspects of IPM, data analysis, report writing, and participate on interagency coordination teams. This position reports to a Section Leader in the Vegetation Management Section.

Specific supervisory responsibilities include goal setting, coordinating weekly team schedules, identifying training needs, and performance evaluations. In addition, the incumbent will assist the Section Leader with coaching and counseling, corrective actions, measuring workflow efficiencies, and recruitment.

Field experience with invasive plant species identification, monitoring, control, and management is preferred.  Knowledge of South Florida ecosystems and their flora—both native and non-native—is required.  Familiarity with administrative contract management and advanced botany preferred. 

The incumbent must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to plan and self-manage heavy workloads; enthusiasm; a temperament for dealing with harsh field conditions; and a willingness and commitment to actively contribute to a collaborative teamwork effort.

Applicants must have an education background and practical and seasoned work experience in applied ecology and management of vegetation, demonstrated ability to design and analyze related field studies, good verbal and written communication skills, ability to plan and manage heavy workloads, enthusiasm and temperament for dealing with harsh wetland field conditions, and willingness and commitment to actively contribute to a collaborative team work effort.
