One of the first urban Conservation Corps in the country, the San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School was founded in 1987 to empower young adults aged 18 to 27 ("Corpsmembers") to upskill themselves and advance their career in conservation and green spaces. Today, SJCC+CS continues to operate its 1-year-long paid workforce development program, while also functioning as a WASC-accredited charter high school, allowing those who have aged out of the traditional education system to earn their high school diploma.

Position Summary:
The Field Site Supervisor implements the mission of SJCC+CS by using their leadership, supervisory and technical skills to develop the educational and work skills of young people while preserving the natural landscape of our community. The crew supervisor is responsible for the oversight of various environmental field projects in city and county parks, which may include trail maintenance, invasive species removal, native habitat restoration, beautification, fire fuel reduction, and more. The supervisor is responsible for a team of 4-9 job training Corpsmembers aged 18 to 27.

- Lead and supervise crews on a variety of outdoor conservation and restoration projects.
- Coordinate daily operations, equipment, vehicles, materials, and project logistics.
- Mentor and develop Corpsmembers through coaching, training, evaluations, and goal setting.
- Promote a strong culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and safety.
- Partner with project sponsors, contractors, and program staff to ensure successful project completion.
- Manage administrative responsibilities including daily reports, attendance, inspections, and performance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and conduct regular safety training and meetings.
- Participate in backcountry expeditions and emergency response efforts as needed.

Position Minimum Qualifications:
- High school Diploma or GED.
- Possession of Passenger Endorsement, or commitment to obtaining one within six months of hire.
- Possession of S-212 certification, or commitment to obtaining one within six months of hire.
- 1 year of supervisory experience or equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to work in team-oriented settings and lead others.
- 1 year of field experience in any of the following: landscaping, trail maintenance and construction, vegetation management, tree maintenance and care, invasive species treatment, habitat restoration.
- Experience operating relevant tools and their corresponding safety equipment, such as chainsaws, weed whackers, and hedgers.
- 1 year of professional experience driving with passengers.
- The ability to solve problems in the field with minimal assistance.
- Strong commitment to improving the quality of life for urban youth.
- The ability to use, and teach others to use, power and hand tools safely.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- First aid/CPR certification.
- The ability to maintain detailed records and documentation.
- Customer Service Experience - able to identify and resolve customer concerns.
- Computer literate.
Driving Record and Requirements: This position requires driving one or more company vehicles. If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license with Passenger endorsement and a clean driving record.
Employment Eligibility: Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in the United States. Please be informed that San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School will NOT sponsor, represent, or sign any documents related to visa applications/transfers for H1-B or any other type of visa which requires an employer application.
Medical Verification: State law requires all employees working with youth to provide medical verification of negative tuberculosis test results within the last year. Employees will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Additionally, certain driver positions require employees to undergo a physical exam.
Background Check and Fingerprinting: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo Live Scan Fingerprinting as well as a background check, which includes a state and federal criminal history record check.
Drug Screen: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo and pass a 5-panel drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Adult Vocational teaching Credential – Landscaping
- Bi-lingual (English and any other language)
- Supervisory experience in a non-profit on-the-job training program or conservation corps / Youth Build setting
- Class B driver license with Passenger endorsement

**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**

If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated.
