Salary $23 - $30 per hour
Benefits Paid time off, health and negotiable benefits, Seasonally variable, 20 to 40 hr per week.

The District Manager leads the daily operations and long-term direction of the Kenai Soil and Water Conservation District (KSWCD). This role includes program development, grant writing and reporting, community engagement, staff management, and fostering partnerships to support voluntary conservation on the Kenai Peninsula. The manager reports to the elected Board of Supervisors.  Employer of record is the Alaska Associaiton of Conservation Districts, 501-C3.  

Additonal seasonal work as field supervisor for seasonal interns and independant work on assorted conservation projects based on technical experience and ability to develop addtional skills and knowledge. 

Primary Responsibilities, Qualifications and Work Conditions: 

  • Develop and manage conservation programs (invasive species, wildfire risk, soil health, salmon habitat, etc.)
  • Write and manage grants, contracts, and budgets
  • Supervise staff, contractors, and interns
  • Coordinate with partners including NRCS, ADF&G, tribal and local governments
  • Support landowners with conservation planning and technical assistance
  • Organize public workshops, educational outreach, and board meetings
  • Maintain district compliance with federal, state, and local requirements 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (natural resources, public administration, agriculture, conservation, biology etc.)
  • 3+ years of project or program management experience
  • Excellent communication, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Budgeting and grant reporting experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office; basic GIS skills a plus
  • Preferred:  Knowledge of Kenai Peninsula conservation issues
  • Experience with NRCS programs or technical service provision
  • Familiarity with working in rural Alaska or tribal communities

Working Conditions:

  •  Office and field-based work requiring travel of agricultural areas, construction sites and undeveloped forested and wetland areas.
  •  Local and occasional statewide travel required
  •  Valid Alaska driver's license required or ability to obtain
