Conservation Futures in the College of Global Futures (CGF) at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, academic year (9-month), benefits-eligible Teaching Professor in Conservation Futures (all ranks considered) with an anticipated start in Spring 2026.

Conservation Futures is a first-of-a-kind transdisciplinary school at the vanguard of redefining conservation as a field. It is part of the College of Global Futures (CGF), the academic cornerstone of the Global Futures Laboratory (GFL) at ASU. Conservation Futures will transform teaching and learning systems in conservation science to protect and restore the diversity of life on our complex and rapidly changing planet. Conservation Futures will value, uplift, and apply a wide array of worldviews, knowledge systems, and conservation practices to build and advance a global conservation community and workforce that reflects the local and global communities it serves. In partnership with organizations and industry, Conservation Futures will serve a range of learners, including conservation organization employees, executives at multinational corporations, youth leaders, policymakers, and undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty will build an engaging with an innovative curriculum that includes real-world skills, digital, hybrid, experiential, and place-based learning, as well as new technologies that build upon the application and theory of conservation science. 

The appointment is non-tenure track and will be made at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor or Teaching Professor (full rank), commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments. This appointment is for one academic year, and subsequent renewals are contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the school. The successful candidate will teach eight courses per academic year, typically four courses per semester. These courses are mostly undergraduate and may also include non-degree offerings for professional education. The courses will mostly be taught on the Tempe campus and asynchronously online. In addition to teaching, service in two school committees is expected.

Applicants should have a broad grasp of the field of conservation and may also have some hands-on experience in both teaching and applications.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Deliver instructions in both immersion (in-person) and online format of undergraduate and graduate level classes and non-degree offerings
  • Contribute to curriculum development
  • Supervise and mentor students and teaching assistants
  • Serve on internal and external committees

Required Qualifications

Teaching Assistant Professor

  • Master’s degree required, PhD preferred, in a field related to conservation
  • Evidence of at least one year of college or university-level teaching experience in conservation or a related field

Teaching Associate Professor

  • In addition to the required qualifications stated above, the successful candidate in this rank should provide evidence of at least five (5) years of college or university level teaching
  • PhD in conservation-related field by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated record of teaching competence in the undergraduate and graduate level courses as evidenced by teaching evaluation, course development, and innovative teaching practices
  • Evidence of the contribution in curriculum development, programmatic responsibilities, and departmental service responsibilities such as faculty committees

Teaching Professor (full rank)

  • In addition to the required qualifications stated above, the successful candidate in this rank should provide evidence of at least five (7) years of college or university level teaching
  • PhD in conservation-related field by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated record of teaching competence in the undergraduate and graduate level courses as evidenced by teaching evaluation, course development, and innovative teaching practices
  • Evidence of the leadership role in curriculum development, programmatic responsibilities, and departmental service responsibilities such as faculty committees

Desired Qualifications (all ranks)

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering teaching in immersion (in-person) and online format using learning management systems and instructional technologies
  • Field experience in conservation
  • Evidence of strong commitment to teaching excellence and student success, including asynchronous online teaching, lectures, effective assessments, and other classroom activities
  • Experience supervising and mentoring students and teaching assistants
  • Potential for the candidate’s scholarship, teaching, and outreach activities to foster the values of ASU as reflected in the ASU Charter
