Do you want to serve your community while protecting the environment and getting professional experience with a land conservation nonprofit?
Whether you are passionate about conservation, land access, or sustainable agriculture, TerraCorps is here to help you serve local communities and build professional skills through transformative experiences.
TerraCorps is an AmeriCorps affiliated nonprofit preparing and mobilizing the next generation of emerging leaders committed to making a difference at the community level. We do this by partnering with a network of nonprofits in Massachusetts and Rhode Island focused on community needs related to local land conservation and sustainable farming. These partners act as service sites for a new cohort of AmeriCorps service members annually. Service members are paired with a site supervisor who provides guidance and mentorship while they learn to manage community programs and projects in one of 5 coordinator positions: Community Engagement Coordinators (CEC), Sustainable Agriculture Coordinators (SAC), Land Stewardship Coordinators (LSC), Youth Education Coordinators (YEC), Land Conservation Coordinator (LCC).
Eastie Farm is interviewing candidates for a Land Stewardship Coordinator (LSC). The LSC will engage with the Environmental Corps Manager to manage volunteers on community service projects, educate or train individuals in environmental stewardship or environmentally conscious practices, and complete two capacity building projects.
Potential projects include:
- Coastal vulnerability baseline documentation: help us begin a years-long process of field documentation and data collection in water quality, storm surge and wave action, erosion, and combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharge; aid in creating or managing a database for this information.
- Help us create a watershed literacy guide to educate East Boston community about the importance of coastal resilience, green infrastructure, storm water management, and how individual behaviors can help secure the health of our waterways and reducing coastal vulnerability and risk.
- Assist with our three volunteer work parties in the afternoons and evenings, in which community members come to help our site manager with various tasks, such as weeding, pruning, transplanting, and small infrastructure projects in our greenhouse and freight container farms.
Applications for this position must be submitted via the TerraCorps online application. The position description for the LSC at Eastie Farm can be found at TerraCorps Available Member Positions.
This is an in-person, 8-month position. It does not offer a remote or hybrid schedule.
