Tahawus Trails is a full-service trail design, construction, and consulting company based in New York State looking for motivated, hard-working trail construction professionals to join our team. Work locations vary for each project and travel is required. The majority of our work is located within the Catskill and Adirondack regions, but ranges as far as Vermont, Connecticut and throughout New York state. 

Position responsibilities:

Trail crew members work both independently and as part of a team to perform a wide range of trail construction tasks on a variety of trail projects. Candidates should be self-driven and motivated. Trail crew members will be required to safely use non-motorized hand tools, power tools, and mechanized equipment to complete trail projects, including (but not limited to) sidehill benching, trail corridor clearing, trail drainage structures, retaining walls, stone staircases, and bridges.

Trail crew members are required to work outdoors in all weather conditions, on varied and steep terrain, carrying and moving heavy objects of 50 pounds or more. Duties may include (but are not limited to): digging, cutting trees and brush, constructing trail structures using dimensional and rough-cut lumber, rock work with native or imported stone, landscaping, and spreading crushed stone.

Trail crew members follow instructions as they relate to their assigned task, as well as the larger scope of the project. They also maintain and repair tools, occasionally lead crews, and perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more of the following or related fields: Trail Building, Dry Stone Masonry, Carpentry, Landscaping, or any other construction field.
  • Performance of physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods of time, as well as lifting and carrying heavy objects over rugged terrain.
  • Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Safety oriented.
  • Ability to carry 50lbs or more. 
  • Must be able to travel for work, including camping at work locations, including backcountry camping, and to areas with limited or no cell service.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR-AED certification.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and the willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle. 

Job Start Date: April 2026 (may also consider a summer start date)
