Trail Crew Member
Overview
Under the direction of the Trail Crew Leader a Trail Crew Member performs trail maintenance and trail building tasks. The Trail Crew Member is part of a 4-5 person crew assigned to various locations based on available grant funding and grant deliverable deadlines.
Responsibilities
Trail Building and Maintenance
- Perform trail maintenance on trails including brushing, lopping, tread repair using loppers, chainsaws, McLeods, pulaskis, pick mattocks and shovels.
- Construct drainage structures and retaining walls using dry stone masonry
- Construct new trails using sustainable trail techniques
- Completes trail work in a timely and efficient manner
- Follows established protocol to ensure that project work quality remains consistent and meets SBTS standards
- Maintain tools and equipment in accordance with established procedures
- Adhere to field safety protocols to ensure safety of self and others
- Follows all employee and safety handbook guidelines
Volunteer and Event Support
- Actively engages with volunteers during trail days, epics and events to create a memorable experience
- Participate in set-up and clean-up for assigned events and trail days
- Provide event support for assigned SBTS events

- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects
- Reach with hands and arms
- Walk, climb, or balance and stoop
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
- Ability to converse and exchange accurate information while working in the field
- Vision ability requirements include the ability to inspect, identify, observe, and assess situational work environments both close up and at a distance.
- Endurance to conduct fieldwork in remote settings under strenuous conditions
- Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain and hike for an extended length of time in extreme heat.
Work Environment
- Fast paced, physically demanding work environment
- Occasional job related travel for training, meetings and/or events.
- Work with moving mechanical equipment (i.e. tools, chainsaws, mcleods, pulaskis, pick mattocks)
- Ability to work in an environment with unpredictable weather
- Ability to work in remote locations for extended periods of time
Required Skills and Certifications
- 1 Year of Trail Work Experience Preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude This skill includes general mechanical reasoning, visual/spatial relations abilities, and trail tool knowledge
- Saw Certificate - A
- Valid Driver's License Required
- First Aid/CPR certification

- Alternative Work Week Schedule; 4/10
- Department training(s) attendance required
- Early morning, evenings and/or weekends occasionally required
Compensation and Benefits
- $22.00/hr - $25.00/hr DOE
