Position Summary
The Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance (VVMTA) is seeking a seasonal, full-time Trail & Youth Programs Coordinator to support trail stewardship through the Adopt A Trail program and oversee youth crews in the Eagle County Youth Corps (ECYC). This role blends hands-on trail work, volunteer leadership, and youth mentorship in a dynamic outdoor environment.
The Coordinator works closely with VVMTA staff, land managers, partner organizations, volunteers, and youth participants to maintain Eagle County’s trail system while fostering environmental stewardship, leadership skills, and workforce development.
About VVMTA
The Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance works to maintain, create, and advocate for sustainable soft-surface trail systems that connect people to nature and strengthen community well-being. VVMTA supports local land managers through trail stewardship programs, volunteer coordination, education, and trail construction and maintenance across Eagle County.
About the Adopt A Trail Program
Launched in 2016, VVMTA’s Adopt A Trail program engages local volunteer teams to maintain over 50 trails across Eagle County. The program supports more than 800 volunteers annually, contributing over 3,000 hours of trail stewardship each year.
About the Eagle County Youth Corps (ECYC)
The Eagle County Youth Corps is a collaborative summer program led by VVMTA in partnership with Walking Mountains. ECYC provides paid, hands-on trail stewardship and workforce development opportunities for local high school–aged youth, focusing on trail maintenance, environmental restoration, and outdoor leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Trail Stewardship & Volunteer Leadership
- Plan and lead trail maintenance projects
- Coordinate Adopt A Trail efforts and volunteer workdays
- Communicate with land managers, volunteers, and partners
- Maintain tools, equipment, records, and project documentation
Youth Crew Leadership (ECYC)
- Supervise and mentor high school–aged youth crews
- Lead trail maintenance and stewardship projects alongside youth
- Teach safe tool use, teamwork, trail etiquette, and professionalism
- Support educational components related to stewardship and careers
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in trail maintenance and sustainable trail construction
- Experience leading volunteers and/or youth
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to perform physical outdoor work in variable conditions
- Wilderness First Aid
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be 21+ and authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
- Experience working with youth or outdoor education programs
- Familiarity with Eagle County trails
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Experience with trail tools and equipment
Schedule & Work Environment
- May 4 – October 10, 2026
- ~35 hours/week, Monday–Friday (occasional evenings/weekends)
- Frequent hiking, lifting, and outdoor labor across varied terrain
