We are seeking individuals who are open to problem-solving and learning new skills and perspectives. Being part of the team at Mountain Surf Creative means doing a little bit of everything on the trail—ranging from crushing rock to installing structures, clearing corridors to hand-finishing tread, and building trails with machinery to performing small engine maintenance.

Mountain Surf Creative works on diverse natural surface trail projects: hiking, shared-use, mountain bike optimized, motorized, and equestrian, all within a 12-hour drive of Quincy, CA.

Position Description

Collaborate with a team to carry out trail construction projects that inspire and connect clients and communities with their landscapes.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Corridor clearing using chainsaws, hand saws, pole saws, and loppers
  • Construction of various types of trails, both by machine and by hand
  • Hand shaping and finishing trail, which includes but is not limited to: raking, lopping, and compacting
  • Revegetation of the trail corridor to create a finished product
  • Rock armoring and dry-stone masonry work
  • Carpentry work
  • Tool and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • 40 hours per week – four 10-hour days typical

Qualifications, Traits, and Experience

  • Durable sense of humor
  • Experience building and maintaining various types of trails in diverse landscapes
  • Experience with construction machinery (excavators, track loaders, track dumpers)
  • Ability to identify a task and take initiative to complete it
  • Use and continually develop leadership skills
  • Respectful to yourself, coworkers, supervisors, and the surrounding public
  • Comfortable travelling and living away from home for extended periods
  • Enthusiastic about outdoor recreation
  • Ability to perform manual labor
  • Ability to lift more than 50 lbs. repeatedly
  • Ability to walk, stand, and remain on your feet for prolonged periods
  • Ability to work outside in extreme heat, cold, rain, and other adverse weather conditions
  • Correctly wear personal protective gear
  • Move safely over uneven terrain
  • Driver's License and reliable personal transportation
