The American YouthWorks – Oklahoma Conservation Corps’ (AYW OKCC) Summer Conservation Program is an AmeriCorps opportunity to work on local habitat restoration projects.

Spend your summer getting paid to build conservation skills and engage in environmental education. The Tribal Youth Conservation Crews are open to Tribal members looking to spend a summer engaging in conservation projects on tribal and public lands. Members will work on habitat restoration projects and engage in environmental education. Opportunities for travel and camping will be provided. No experience required!

  • Positions: 2 Crew Leaders | 2 Crew Members
  • Term Length: June 1 - July 31 | 300 hour AmeriCorps Term | 9 Weeks
  • Age: 17 - 30 (Crew Leaders MUST be 21+)
  • Partner Agency: U.S. Forest Service
  • Hours & Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (subject to change, depending on season)

Compensation (AmeriCorps Living Allowance)

  • Crew Leaders: $2,720 per month ($1360 semi-monthly)
  • Crew Member: $2,400 per month ($1200 semi-monthly)

Educational Requirement:

  • Crew Members: No high school diploma or GED required
  • Crew Leaders: High school diploma or GED required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Frequently required to walk and hike over long distances while carrying tools
  • Ability to operate tools
  • Heavy lifting, bending, and carrying up to 35-50* pounds (*depending on crew type)
  • Walking and working on steep or uneven terrain
  • Ability to work long days in adverse weather conditions
  • Depending on crew type, ability to hitch, camp, and travel throughout the duration of an entire AmeriCorps term

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Ages 17+ for Crew Members and 21+ for Crew Leaders
  • US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
  • Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
  • Crew Leaders Only:
    • Ages 21+
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Clear 3-year Driving Record
    • Prior experience in conservation, camping, backcountry travel, or related fieldwork

Preferred

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing demanding labor with hand and power tools
  • Function as part of a team with the ability to get along with members of all backgrounds and experience levels
  • Strong service ethic and commitment to completing an entire term of service with a desire to serve the community and the environment
  • Crew Leaders Only:
    • Ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a 45lb backpack and carrying tools
