Montpelier Parks Department’s mission is to steward Montpelier's parks, trees, and natural spaces for the enjoyment and health of all. The Flood Recovery Coordinator will support the Montpelier community in flood recovery from 2023 flood event, disaster preparedness, and implement valuable programs and projects. This position with the Montpelier Parks and Trees Department will tackle projects mitigating flood risk while continuing to rebuild projects and public areas that were damaged in the 2023 flood. 

Member duties include: 

  • Perform physical service outside in all types of weather including but not limited to trail building and maintenance, forestry, removal of invasive species, farming at community Feast Farm, and volunteer coordination.
  • Recruit, lead, and mentor volunteers and job trainees to support Department’s mission.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of Montpelier Park community events including but not limited to: Enchanted Forest, Parkapalooza, and Ice on Fire.
  • Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps
  • Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.
  • Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities. 

This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. This position is Half Time position: Requires 915 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 6 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $16,147 (pre-tax) for the term. Member will receive an education award of $3,697.50 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service.
