Westchester Parks Foundation advocates for and invests in the 18,000 acres of parks, trails, and open spaces within the Westchester County Parks system. Our programs include Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway, Camp Morty, Westchester’s Winter Wonderland and Trails Without Limits.  Our programs and activities are focused on enhancing our park system and the experience of the community within them.

The seasonal Volunteer Coordinator position is integral to WPF’s mission, assisting the Director of Volunteer Programs and the Manager of Volunteer Programs in leading groups of all sizes through our stewardship initiatives for the 2026 season. Since 2015, we have hosted nearly 30,000 individuals and given over 89,000 hours of service to the park system through our Volunteer Program. 

Under supervision of the Director of Volunteer Programs, and the Manager of Volunteer Programs, the Seasonal Volunteer Coordinator will maintain our ongoing Volunteer Program through a combination of excellent on-site leadership as well as administrative support to foster positive relationships with Westchester County Parks and the public.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Programs

  • Coordinate and supervise volunteer activities, at least 3 days per week depending on the season
  • Work closely with Volunteer Program Staff and Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation to build calendars in advance
  • Conduct research for supply orders, suggest purchases as needed for projects
  • Schedule site surveys and planning meetings with Parks staff as needed
  • Work outdoors seasonally in varying weather conditions leading volunteer projects (examples include invasive plant management, litter cleanup, tree planting, and trail maintenance)
  • Load supplies and drive truck/van to projects; maintain a clean and orderly supply room.
  • Train volunteers and ensure safe practices on site
  • Keep our program thriving by leading special initiatives like Clean River Project
  • Assist with annual “Pitch in for Parks” county-wide volunteer service program scheduled around Earth Day
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with other community leaders, local schools, businesses, and individual volunteers

  • Potential expanded role for the right candidate

Administration

  • Update and maintain public volunteer registration page
  • Update and maintain volunteer database and program metrics on a weekly basis
  • Ensure volunteer paperwork is up-to-date and organized
  • Fulfill verification letter requests

Communications

  • Strengthen public understanding of Westchester Parks Foundation and the County Park System through education at volunteer and other outreach events.
  • Contribute to WPF’s goals through collaboration across all departments

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Degree (or working towards a degree) in a field related to parks or conservation preferred but not required

Relevant Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience leading volunteer stewardship projects or related programming

Professional Skills:

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to handle a variety of responsibilities simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments in an efficient, accurate and timely manner
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective in presenting information to large groups
  • Comfort with workplace software such as Adobe PDF, MS Office Suite, and cloud-based storage systems
  • Ability to manage a project from start to finish while meeting deadlines and providing clear communication to all involved parties

Personal Qualities:

  • Positive, professional and accommodating attitude
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff, members, board and committee members
  • High level of integrity in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • Passion for connecting people to their local parks

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license

Hours: 20–30 hours per week, March–November 2026

Up to 10 additional hours per week with Trails Without Limits for interested and qualified candidates

Subject to annual review and evaluation. Probationary period of not less than three (3) months and ending after no more than six (6) months upon successful completion.
