Watercraft Inspector Level 2 Decontamination - Seasonal

Part Time Seasonal Temporary - 20 hours per week minimum, up to 40 hours per week, maximum 80 hours per pay period
Job Objective
Must be 18+ to be considered for an interview.
Inspect watercraft for Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Assist watercraft users with decontamination of their watercraft. Inform and educate the public on the threats of ecologically harmful AIS to the lakes and rivers in Chisago County. Provide citizens with training and education on how to prevent AIS transport.
Supervision Received
Supervision provided by the Water Resource Manager, assisted by the AIS Specialist/Lead Watercraft Inspector.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Educate the public on AIS spread and impacts
- Operate and maintain decontamination equipment
- Distribute informational handouts to watercraft users
- Manually inspect watercraft for AIS
- Identify contaminated watercraft and implement AIS decontamination protocols
- Conduct a verbal survey and document data in a tablet
- Adhere to Watercraft Inspector Scheduling Guidelines
- Work in partnership with the Chisago County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Natural Resources Statewide AIS Program
- Operate and maintain/winterize AIS equipment including truck, decontamination unit, and boat
- Participate in AIS outreach/education events
- Conduct early detection and baseline monitoring at public water accesses
- Other duties as assigned
Program Structure
The Watercraft Inspector Level 2 Decontamination is expected to weekends (including Saturdays and Sundays), evenings and some holdays between Minnesota Fishing Opener and the third week of October. Inspector will be responsible for work schedule upon supervisor approval. Personal transportation is required. Scheduling can be flexible to work around adverse weather conditions.
Desired Qualifications
Education and Experience
a. Graduation from high school or equivalent
b. Currently pursuing, or completed, a college degree program in a natural resources, education, law enforcement, or other related field
c. One year experience as a watercraft inspector
d. Valid Driver's License and personal vehicle

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at public water accesses. The employee will regularly encounter spray water drift. The employee can expect to work in a variety of weather conditions. No work will be performed during conditions of severe weather. Moderate to loud noise levels such as operating the decontamination unit, running vehicles and boat motors can be expected.
