Title: WCC AmeriCorps Individual Placement – Recreation Intern with Brush Creek Hayden Ranger District (USFS) 

Location: Saratoga, Wyoming 

Compensation: $8,000 living stipend + $1.956.35 Segal Education Award 

Term of Service: This position has a 450-hour term of service beginning May 18 and ending August 19. Schedule may include occasional evenings, holidays, weekends and variable shifts.     A typical work week includes four 10-hour shifts, including weekends. 

Position Overview: The Wyoming Conservation Corps (WCC) is seeking applicants to fill up to three (3) AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions with a partner organization. The positions have a 450-hour term of service.  

These members will serve as part of a District recreation team in support of developed/dispersed recreation infrastructure, trails, and maintain developed recreation sites and Forest Service rental cabins. Duties for these positions consist of a variety of patrols and projects including dispersed and developed areas adjacent to mountain communities: 

  • Public education and information of Forest rules and regulations to Forest visitors. 
  • Patrol front country trails, dispersed areas, and developed sites adjacent to mountain communities to educate on Leave No Trace practices and Forest regulations. 
  • Patrol roaded areas via trucks and/or UTV’s providing motorized recreation information to forest users. 
  • Install and maintain trailhead, road signs, access gates, and information kiosks. 
  • Implement and support the motorized and non-motorized travel management plan (where motorized and mountain bikes are authorized to go) via signage, gates, barriers, and visitor education. 
  • Remove outdated or damaged interior features; repairing or replacing flooring, cabinetry, windows, trim, and other structural or cosmetic components; and assisting with installation of new fixtures, hardware, and accessibility improvements.  Prepare surfaces for painting or finishing, apply coatings as directed, and maintain a clean and safe work area. 
  • Staging and transporting materials, documenting progress through photos and written logs, reporting structural, electrical, or plumbing concerns, and coordinating with supervisors to ensure compliance with project timelines and standards. 
  • Perform daily cleaning, restocking, repairs, trash removal, and hazard checks to ensure all facilities are safe, functional, and visitor‑ready. 
  • Document site and asset conditions, support fee compliance, communicate with visitors, and report maintenance needs or safety issues promptly. 
  • Perform maintenance and clean developed sites such as campgrounds, picnic areas, trailhead facilities including bathrooms. 
  • Collect and count recreation fees. 
  • Assist with volunteer projects with local partners and volunteer groups as scheduled. 
  • Collect and maintain field data and trail surveys using tablets. 
  • Serve independently on backcountry trail projects and provide support/assistance for youth crew trail projects. 

Housing and Transportation: 

  • A Government vehicle will be provided to complete approved tasks related to this position. 
  • Shared housing in a bunkhouse or similar accommodations may be available. 

Physical Working Conditions: The candidate may be required to work alone or in a small team in front- and backcountry settings in variable weather conditions.   

Qualifications:  

Required: 

  • AmeriCorps participants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents 
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • 18 years of age 
  • Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria 
  • Ability to lift 30+ lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation 
  • Possess valid driver's license and ability to pass drivers' test 

Preferred: 

  • Desire to learn and work with hand tools 
  • Ability to communicate with the public and project partners 
  • Accomplish tasks in a team environment as well as individual environment
